A move to the tropics can be a huge shock to the system. The warm temperatures and high humidity can be testing, even for those life-long residents who usually love the weather.
The humidity can be challenging for everyone, but none more so than the foundation you use each morning where the promises of a long-wear and durable product are really put to the test.
Our unique climate, particularly in the summer months really pushes the friendship and wiping away sweat is the quickest way to remove what was a beautiful face expertly applied that morning.
But one Melbourne woman who recently moved to Cairns and posted on a Far North Queensland Facebook group was feeling particularly challenged.
Her post got plenty of comments, but one product was recommended more than any others, and that’s Estee Lauder’s Double Wear.
“I’ve just moved from Melbourne and I need some advice on makeup for this type of weather?” she wrote.
“All my makeup has been sliding off – I can’t even do it without sweating it off during. It’s looking sloppy and I’m having to use heaps of powder which I never do because I like deweylooks.
“What tips or makeup products do ya’ll beautiful tropical ladies use?…
“All my products are clearly only work in Melbourne weather!!! I’m going insane.”
The comments were mixed, with suggesting not using makeup at all and embracing a bare face, and one comment even suggested using calamine lotion as a base.

However Estee Lauder’s Double Wear was overwhelmingly recommended in the comments.
“Estee Lauder Double wear, I used to wear Clinique but it just doesn’t cut it up here.”
“I Swear by Estee Lauder Double Wear too. I always set the foundation with the powder to ensure it lasts. During summer on especially hot days I’ll still sweat but as long as I don’t touch my face too much and blot with a tissue, she keeps working hard for me.”
“Estee Lauder Double Wear is the only product that stays on my face! Love it.”
Cairns-based makeup artist Georgia Ayris said Double Wear was an “incredible” product which lasts in the hot and humid climate.
“The formula is definitely on the thicker side, so a well-prepped and hydrated base is key for this foundation, and skincare is always the first step to flawless makeup,” she said.
To apply the foundation, she recommended a dense buffing brush.
“You need to work quickly as this product dries fast, and always set with a powder to ensure a long-lasting finish,” she said.
“Also, use a mattyfying primer like the Smashbox Matifying Primer, or the L’Oreal Paris Prime Lab 24H Matte Setter Primer if you’re after something more affordable, to absorb excess oil and sweat.”
